Notice To All NZAVS Members And Supporters

The Dominion of 22 July incorrectly reported that the petition to Parliament on behalf of animals in NZ laboratories had been presented by the Anti-Vivisection Society. This has resulted in a state of confusion as many members of our Society are asking why we have changed our policy of non-compromise.

This petition is not the work of the NZ Anti-Vivisection Society and our attitude to it is outlined for your clarification:

The Petition seeks to:
1. Eliminate repetitious, painful, or stressful experiments and exercises on living animals.

Our comment:

This is a veritable hymn to the vivisector:

It will need vast armies of supervisors to police procedures. To calculate pain and stress. (Obviously this will be determined by the person performing the experiment.) What is "stress"?

If this law is passed the animals behind laboratory doors are doomed - with the vivisectors protected by an antiquated and ill- conceived (so-called) anti-vivisectionists' charter. It will put New Zealand in the same position as the United Kingdom where all manner of atrocities are carried out under such a charter - which is leading to a physical revolution by an active Animal Liberation Front.

No real or competent anti-vivisectionist will ever be tolerated in the bodies deciding which experiments are repetitious, painful or stressful - and no real or competent anti-vivisectionist would wish to be associated with such a body.
