The good news from Italy

On August 9 1985 with a double vote (first through hand-count, then through electronic registration) the Chamber of Deputies approved a motion against animal experimentation. With a majority of 60 votes, the Assembly approved a motion introduced by Socialist Filippo Fiandrotti requesting the Italian Government:-

To forbid all animal experiments during the years 1985-1987 - and to assign the funds earmarked for vivisection to other research projects...

Unfortunately, the resolution is not binding on the Government. However thanks to this brave politician a healthy majority of 60 votes shows that the tide has turned in Italy.

The resolution was introduced by Filippo Fiandrotti following the showing of a video tape provided by Hans Ruesch - and his speech was based on passages from Slaughter of the Innocent. Fiandrotti followed Ruesch's advice to the letter...

"Forget about ethics and animal rights philosophy and advocate abolition on the grounds of the documented harmfulness of animal experimentation in relation to medicine - as evidenced by the long list of pharmaceutical disasters... all to be attributed to 'safety tests' on animals"...
