A slight handful of members achieved the success of NZAVS world day for laboratory animals 1987. Our destination of Civic Square came all too quickly. The Petition when launched marked the beginning of a period of struggle and sacrifice which must involve all members... that of gathering 100,000 signatures. When this is achieved the next milestone will be set in motion. Lack of space precludes comprehensive acknowledgements. Briefly I thank Maria and Kevin Hammond, Murray Jackson, Colette McKenzie and Sylvia Wilson. Above all I commend the young - who combining from extremely varying backgrounds, aspirations and philosophies, uncorrupted and uncluttered by petty trivialities are consolidating into a powerful new abolitionist movement.
