| Fraudulence.. Furtiveness.. and Futility - of the plush Wellcome pharmaceutical company | ||
|
(Report and photographs to NZAVS direct from the Animal Liberation Front.) On Friday 27 March 1987 the Animal Liberation Front Investigation Unit entered the premises of Wellcome Pharmaceutical Company at Grange Farm, Frant, Sussex, England where they took video and photographic evidence of the experimentation taking place on pigs, goats, sheep, donkeys and horses. The first laboratory entered was the Pig Experimentation Unit. The report says the animals were continually shifting about, unable to settle or sleep owing to extensive sores and scabs on their bodies. The next unit held goats and sheep "in terrible conditions" losing large patches of wool from their bodies.

The final units entered held horses and donkeys under experimentation. Some had extensive surgery with gaping neck wounds dripping pus. Badly-sewn incisions were covered with dirt and straw. Pus floated in the water troughs. Some horses were in such a bad state they were unable to stand. Donkeys had experiments performed on their necks and rear ends - which squirted blood, large boils and pus were clearly visible and one donkey had a large amount of blood dripping down its coat. The reoport claims that the condition of most of the animals was "disgusting". |

ALF reveals the horror behind Wellcome pills and potions.
After taking extensive video and photographs the activists departed - taking with them a horse and donkey. The condition of the horse is causing concern as a large part of its trachea had been removed making it impossible for the animal to lower its head to graze. It also has a bad infection in its neck and in all four feet. A point of interest is that the horse is a pedigree ex-racing horse once worth many thousands of Pounds... the donkey is very old! Both animals are treated by a sympathetic vet who hopes they will be able to live out the rest of their lives free from pain. Are Wellcome wonder-drugs in your medicine cabinet? |
