International Animal Liberation
"No man - No law - No war
Will stop us"

- ALF

Our response..

Since is inception NZAVS policy has been support-in-principle of the Animal Liberation Front. It now reaffirms this policy.

During the past eight years the Society has undertaken continuous and intense campaigns to enlighten the public and pressure politicians. Despite thousands of letters to MPs and Ministers of the Crown, despite thousands of names on petitions, despite demonstrations, marches, meetings and untold letters to editors (mostly unpublished). Despite deluging New Zealand with hundreds of thousands of leaflets and dozens of other campaign tactics not only are our views ignored but we have run into the unbreakable wall of the mass media (see Naked Empress pages 101-102 hardback edition). On 28 May 1985 the Select Committee Hearing of NZAVS LD50 Petition and its outcome was a national disgrace.

This Society agrees with ALF that reform will never come by appealing to politicians, vast numbers of whom are profiteers from animal abuse. Many are farmers or involved with the multi-nationals. The Minister of Finance, Roger Douglas imprisons 3000 pigs in a disgusting, intensive production-line-efficient battery system. Ten percent man Knapp cashes in on cancer research funds... There are many others.

The Animal Liberation Front:
Born of Parliamentary indifference and inaction.

Fanaticism

Fanatics is the word usually applied to describe ALF.

But the fanaticism of ALF pales into insignificance when compared to the fanaticism with which the vivisectors lay hands on their helpless victims, or the fanatical silence of politicians (despite being in possession of proof of the scientific and medical fraud of vivisection). With ruthless fanaticism the farming industry measures every centimetre of space, every gram of food against the end result... profit. With hideous fanaticism it goes ahead, before a shocked world, with the despicable live shipment of sheep and lambs. With fanatical and relentless advertising the pharmaceutical companies urge us to consume mainly worthless, if not dangerous medicaments, vaccines and remedies to rid ourselves of complaints brought about by swallowing their former products... and the cosmetic companies' battery of advertising "beauty" products, tested in the most un-beautiful fashion in the eyes and stomachs of helpless, docile and harmless animals... can only be described as fanatical.

All - but ALF have the same common denominator:
profit... profit... profit...

Earlier this year when the ALF (not motivated by profit but by the highest of humane principles) exposed the useless and invalid practice of experimental heart surgery being undertaken on homeless dogs at Greenlane Hospital, Auckland, they were dubbed "fanatical"! Surely the unscientific, disgusting and grotesque practise of vivisection, which is the greatest danger to human health in the world today (short of nuclear war) coupled with the total apathy of the public, and indeed many members of anti-vivisection societies (some of which are merely extensions of the pharmaceutical companies)... make for the total validity of direct action... based on the Animal Liberation Front's strict policy of no violence to human or animal.

"Conclusions from dog experiments (on the heart) extrapolated to human beings frequently bring about catastrophic results and regrettable failures."
- Dr Brandon Reines, Author and Senior Veterinarian at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, Boston USA in his "Heart Research on Animals" 1987. Foreword written by Dr Moneim A. Fadali, one of America's leading heart surgeons of 25 years.
