Annual Report of activities 1/4/1989 to 31/3/1990 included the following:

June 16 World Day for Laboratory Animals: Spectacular NZAVS March to Parliament to present Petition of 100,640 signatures to John Terris who tabled in the House on 26 April. (Nelson organised a March in support.)
May to December Weekly Submission stalls held throughout Wellington.
June Mobilise! 24 called for members' Submissions.
June 16 Parliament gave NZAVS written instruction that Overell Submission only would be recorded. All other Submissions supporting the Petition to be classed as "correspondence" with no status.
June to 31/3/90 Exhaustive consolidated campaign by NZAVS seeking Primary Production Select Committee registration of Submissions supporting the Petition.
October 3 World Animal Day: Bette Overell interviewed on Maggie Barry Nationwide radio. Highly successful all-day Submission/Information stall in central Wellington. Events in Auckland, Christchurch, Hastings, Levin, Nelson and Whangarei.
October 26 NZAVS wrote congratulations to Auckland Area Health Board which closed its animal laboratory at Middlemore Hospital with reported saving of $87,000 per year.
October Mobilise! 25 (http://www.nzavs.org.nz/mobilise/25/index.html) to all politicians with appeal that the PPSC register members' Submissions. (This generated much correspondence.)
November 24 NZAVS wrote to Chief Ombudsman seeking investigation with view to obtaining government recognition of Submissions.
Nov/December Extensive newspaper publicity resulting from numerous interviews about the Petition.
December 20 NZAVS Grand Christmas Raffle drawn: Winners G. Bremner, Otago; Mrs J. Youngs, P. North. profit $2,312 (to be used to help finance WDLA 1990.)

Year-long Many pupils supplied with educational information.
