| Innocent victims of the cruel slave trade | ||
Edited from the TV Close Up programme was my report on the present lucrative slave-trade in wild animals to the world's vivisection laboratories. Particularly the traffic in non-human primates. To capture the babies, hunters shoot the mothers high in the trees, knowing that the baby will cling to her dying body - never leaving it even in death. Sometimes 20 animals die to catch one infant. The period between capture and consignment on the aircraft is approximately four months. Enduring long journeys in stifling containers the animals lie in their own excrement and vomit halting at the concentration camps along the way to discard the dead. Daily as we lead our comfortable lives the pathetic cargoes of babies, little more than foetuses are transported in harrowing conditions in the holds of the aircraft. The suffering is beyond description. Some consignments have an 80 percent mortality rate. On arrival at the vivisection laboratory more die of heartbreak, misery and despair before being put to the vivisector. And so our nearest living relatives on this planet, the highly intelligent and sensitive non-human primates are being plundered to extinction. And for what? For head transplant experiments. For experiments where their brains are cut out and kept alive independent of their bodies. For experiments where their heads are severed and kept alive for morbid curiosity. For experiments with war weapons, poison gases, drugs, and in the case of the adult females for degrading and obscene experiments by white-coated sadists without mercy. |
