In London on World Day for Laboratory Animals 1991 at least eighteen thousand people marched from Hyde Park to Trafalgar Square. Throughout the day radio traffic programmes announced that drivers should beware central London, because of "a huge anti-vivisection march".
The National Anti-Vivisection Society reports: "The day gave us an opportunity to concentrate our arguments on the medical and scientific invalidity of vivisection, and present to the public the evidence that animal experiments don't work and must be abolished for the sake of people and animals... our capital city resounded with the huge voice of a united movement for abolition of this shameful blot on human society... victory in our lifetime!"
