The Mysterious Animal Welfare Societies That Do Not Want Vivisection Abolished! Members are aware that the RNZSPCA Auckland made a Submission to Parliament "representing all 53 local societies which are either Branches of the RSPCA or Member Societies". The Submission concluded:
Repeated appeals to the RNZSPCA to name the 53 societies on whose behalf they placed the Submission, have been unsuccessful. On 13 October 1992, the General Secretary Tony Holman suggested that "any requests for information about the RNZSPCA Submission should be sent to this office and we will respond to them"... Our further letters to him received no acknowledgement. As certain SPCAs wholeheartedly supported the Petition they rightly wish their policy known. For example the Wellington SPCA which assisted in the signature drive. NZAVS does not intend to correspond with the 53 groups. It merely wishes to bring into the open the names of the 53 animal welfare societies in whose name the Auckland RNZSPCA opposed the Petition to Abolish Vivisection and expressed satisfaction with the current "law". |

Messages of solidarity to Hans Ruesch In the last Mobilise! we called for messages of solidarity for our Patron, undisputed leader of the new abolitionist movement Hans Ruesch. The editor feels sure that the following sentiments will be shared by all our members: "In CIVIS Foundation Report Nr. 13 Hans Ruesch describes himself as the 'Killer of Dreams'. Those who speak the truth not only kill our dreams but waken us to reality. With the truth we may 'kill' the nightmare of vivisection - and some day dream in peace again. I applaud the 'Killer of Dreams'... Hans Ruesch." "I usually regard compliments about people with great suspicion. However I am convinced that Hans Ruesch is doing so much for the animal and human kingdom that he will eventually become a martyr. Accepting him means following to the letter the principle of abolition." "Every person who professes to be an anti-vivisectionist must acknowledge the vital work done by Hans Ruesch in exposing the fraud of vivisection and the infiltrators responsible for its continuation. I know I have been privileged to work with some of the most dedicated individuals in New Zealand, who recognise his work." The Singer/Ruesch trial, set (for the second time) for 9 November has been "post-poned" yet again until May this year. |
