The Ruesch / Singer Court Case

On 23 July Hans Ruesch wrote to your editor that he had lost the first round of the trial against Singer. He says he will appeal as soon as the court publishes the "motivation" for its decision. Ruesch wrote:

"Singer's presence turned into a triumph for us because he admitted to the court that his tours were financed by the Rockefeller Foundation."

It is revealed in Naked Empress that the Rockefellers own the largest drug manufacturing combine in the world, and use all of their other interests to bring pressure to increase the sale of drugs.

Ruesch also informs us that prior to the court case one of Singer's Italian representatives had approached Ruesch's codefendant, the League Against Vivisection, saying charges would be withdrawn if LAV would officially disown him... This they refused to do.

Rush for your Flu Shot Today!

Capitalising from massive advertising urging flu vaccination Wellington members took to the streets on 23 June 1993. Two teams operating in Lambton Quay and Cuba Mall worked alongside stalls set up with Animal Research Takes Lives - Humans and Animals Both Suffer (http://www.health.org.nz/cover.html), their crews distributing leaflets urging the public to read the section on flu vaccination before deciding whether to have flu shots.

Response from the public in Lambton Quay was excellent, many people stopped for lengthy discussion and asked for more information. In Cuba Mall, Anita Spencer reported similar interest but said they were confronted with hagglers in support of vivisection. Dave Workman designed the excellent leaflet.

"The risk of suffering serious complications from the 'flu vaccines is far greater than the 'flu."

Poison Profits Benefit Gig 23 July 1993

On 23 July an NZAVS benefit gig was held to release the 'Poison Profits' NZAVS Benefit Compilation Tape, featuring: Shrapnel, Conventional Toasters, Devoid, Septic Noise Grinder, and SMUT.

Unfortunately Shrapnel could not play but the other four bands did with SMUT doing two sets. The theme of the night was set with anti-vivisection banners decorating the Wakefield Street warehouse venue and Kieren gave an opening speech explaining the reason for the gig. All the bands were well received despite three out of four not having their usual line-up present. All-in-all a good night was had by most.

$500 was raised for NZAVS.

This sum has virtually paid the cost of all NZAVS leaflets, posters and advertising for World Animal Day 1993... which is dedicated to Kieren, helpers and the bands who raised the money.
