"Dear Editor

Contrary to the claims made by Dame Ann Ballin of the Australian and New Zealand Council for the Care of Animals in Research and Teaching (ANZCCART) in her letter of February 17, 1994, the book Animal Research Takes Lives - Humans and Animals Both Suffer offers an accurate account of the futility of vivisection.  The book cites many medical and scientific professionals around the world.

Please find enclosed for your perusal speeches by Dr George Haritakis and Dr Brandon Reines of the Society Doctors in Britain Against Animal Experiments.  Dr Haritakis emphasizes the waste of taxpayers' dollars spent on animal research.  Vivisection will always provide inaccurate and misleading results because it is impossible to extrapolate data from animal studies to humans.

While vivisection continues with full government support, patients are denied treatment and hospital funding is cut for staff and equipment.  Despite the enormous amount of resources diverted to vivisection, the rate of heart disease, cancer, and other diseases are rising at an alarming rate.

Worldwide, health care professionals are forming their own groups and demanding the abolition of vivisection in favour of prevention and clinical studies.

It is time the scientific community, and the government which regulates it, are held accountable for the deteriorating health care systems that exist in most countries today.

Yours Sincerely

S. Daskalova de Banou (Mrs)

"Dear Editor

I am horrified to see the names of Hans Ruesch, Switzerland, Prof. P. Croce, Italy and B. Robinson, USA in your points noted columns.  What a slight!  This is deplorable.  These people are world renowned names in the vivisection debate and your readers should have access to their comments.

Yours Faithfully
