The Hand That Rocks the Cradle is a 50-minute video presented to NZAVS by John Leso, produced by the Australian Health Care Reform Group. It deals with SIDS, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, otherwise known as cot death. Its cover reads as follows:

• Have you ever bought a Red Nose for cot death research and wondered where your money went to?
• Are you aware that recognised researchers around the world have studied SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) for a quarter of a century? Still they admit they have no idea what causes it.
• This video gives you an otherwise off-limits look at that research and its increasing likeness to a money-pit. Some doctors and academics have known about infant death for years without recognition or acceptance of their findings. Their results are relevant to any parent of young children, and also to the health of every person in this country today.
• Why has their discovery remained a secret? What force has protected its own interests to keep the cause of cot death from the people who most need to know it?

On 12th August in New Zealand the tins will be jingling, and even the most conventional of the populace will be running around looking ridiculous wearing red noses which must have the organisers laughing until they are red in the face. Much money from this appeal is spent vivisecting animals, in order, they say, to find the reason and cure for cot death, and though this is impossible it will keep the pharmaceutical companies wealthy and the vivisectors up front whingeing for their 'research' grants.

Witnesses on this video say the money raised on Red Nose Day is used to power a self-perpetuating business. They admit that after 25 years of vivisecting animals there is no sign of progress.

• Chris Seton, vivisector at the University of Sydney:

  "Since the Red Nose Day campaign started, over ten million Australian dollars have been raised. At the University of Sydney we do a lot of animal research and have a large breeding laboratory - Our methodology of painstaking [!] research using dogs, cats, rats and rabbits during the past sixteen years has given many interesting results. However lately we have taken on more human research using adults, children and babies - as you cannot always apply humans to animal research."




• Australian doctors Archie Kalokerinos, Hon Adviser for Aboriginal Health, and Dr Glen Dettman Bi Medical Scientist, independent SIDS researcher, and New Zealand's Dr Ritchie, all pioneers on the subject of cot death, state that immunisation, coupled with lack of vitamin C to neutralise its toxins, is the cause of SIDS. This evidence is outlined in Animal Research Takes Lives - Humans and Animals Both Suffer (http://www.health.org.nz/cover.html), which is shocking in the extreme, and which should be read before putting so much as a cent in the begging bowl of the vivisectors.



• Dr Kalokerinos says he has observed that giving vaccines to babies who are sick, or who have recently been sick, is likely to cause death. Following this theory he says he has never had one single incident of cot death:

  "In Australia, millions of dollars used in research has not solved the problem, they won't research into the cause by immunisation, it has never been looked at in the proper way, the only real study is my own which is not recognised by the Australian Government... I was asked to produce a submission on cot death to the Australian Government. Before putting pen to paper an article appeared in the Australian Medical Journal saying my submission was worthless!"




• Dr Dettman:

  "There is no way in the world to extrapolate animals to human circumstance. Animal research is cruel to the animals, dangerous to the public and misleading to the scientist. One of the causes of cot death is the 'multi-factual' insult to the body. One of the easiest ways to prevent cot death is to prevent multi-factual insults to the body by not vaccinating."




• Dr Ritchie:

  "In New Zealand it was found that 15 percent of 18 year olds who had been vaccinated at birth had lost their antibody immunity. Some mothers who had received vaccinations could not pass their immunity to antibodies onto their children. The question is, whether the illness is more harmful than the vaccination. Once a person has had the measles the body's natural antibodies will create a life-long immunity, whereas being vaccinated does not provide lifelong immunity. Earlier generations have had their immunity system broken down, this has passed down to their children, contributing to cot deaths."

In 1974 Doctors Kalokerinos and Dettman submitted an article to the editor of the Medical Journal which gave: "Positive and disturbing facts about routine immunisations." These were not published and the papers returned to them with the comment that: "Most doctors were aware of the dangers of vaccination."

"More die each year from cot death than the total number of AIDS cases recorded since 1981, yet little research money has been allocated to study the possibility of a relationship between these deaths and the DPT vaccine."

"The sad fact is that after more than 40 years of subjecting pertussis vaccine to the mouse toxicity test, children are still dying and being brain damaged after the vaccine has passed this test."
Dr Kevin Geraghty pediatric immunologist making a link between SIDS and DPT vaccine.

"A University of California study has shown that at least 1000 cot-deaths (SIDS - Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) are caused by vaccines."

"My suspicion, shared by others in my profession, is that nearly ten thousand SIDS in the US each year are related to the vaccines routinely given to children."
The late Dr R. Mendelsohn.

"Drug manufacturers and the FDA have known since the early 1960s that the mouse toxicity test bears little relation to adverse reactions in children. Knowing that the vaccine was not being properly evaluated for toxicity, they continued to inject it into more than sixty million children during the following 20 years..."

Animal Research Takes Lives - Humans and Animals Both Suffer (http://www.health.org.nz/cover.html) gives details of SIDS death in New Zealand, USA, Canada, Alaska and Taiwan taking place after vaccination. Damages from DPT vaccine are so numerous that the US Government and the pharmaceutical companies concerned established a compensation fund for the victims.

All the evidence proves that SIDS is the result of vaccination... To save babies dying - and to save animals from vivisection - do not contribute to the Red Nose appeal.
