Ham and Eggs Coutesy RSPCA
In UK the RSPCA has launched its "Freedom Food" scheme, where, in conjunction with farmers, meat and eggs are produced according to RSPCA standards and bearing an RSPCA label. The scheme allows:
- Sows kept in farrowing crates;
- Tail-cutting of piglets;
- De-beaking chickens;
- CO2 stunning pigs (totally opposed by Compassion in World Farming as pigs panic, hyperventilate and struggle to escape);
- Animals/birds transported up to eight hours without food, water or rest.
About the "Freedom Food", the CIWF says:
"We object to the RSPCA's apparent approval of systems and mutilations which we abhor. Sadly most consumers may never know the truth. We leave it to you, our supporters, to make up your minds about Freedom Food."

The Dirty Dozen
ARTL exposed RSPCA investments in vivisection labs. The Imperial Cancer Research Fund and the Institute of Cancer Research own shares in Rothmans International and Players. Tobacco shares of 65,000 pounds sterling in tobacco companies by the National Asthma Campaign. Similarly the Sure Ryder Foundation, operator of 22 nursing homes for cancer patients. The British Heart Foundation owns 460,000 shares in Guinness, Beefeater Gin and Southern Comfort. The National Trust, UK's biggest environmental organisation, opponent of many road schemes owns a chunk of Tarmac. The RSPCA (which has 74 million pounds sterling) has shares in Glaxo, UK's biggest vivisectors. The Church owns 3 million pounds sterling shares in GEC, one of the country's largest defence manufacturers. Over 30 million pounds sterling is held by British charities in investments... much in direct conflict with the charities' objectives.
(Summarised from Sunday Times UK, 14 May 1995.... thanks Phil Clayton.)
One Good Job Leads to Another
Vivisector Tony Suckling in the 1980s at St Thomas Hospital UK injects virus into mice to study damage to the central nervous system. proceeds to York University where he creates "animal models" of multiple sclerosis in baby guinea-pigs (horrific experiments described in ARTL, page 186). Suckling's vivisection funded by the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Wellcome. In 1990 the same Suckling appointed Chief Scientific Officer of the RSPCA... In 1991 promoted to the Animal Procedures Committee (where he will feel at home with others of similar ilk. ed.).

Neville Gregory, ex-vivisector from Bristol - Now Prof. of "Animal Welfare" Science at Massey.
(Mobilise! 41, page 5) says "battery hens don't suffer. (Now who is surprised?)
(Dominion, 30 March 1995, p. 14.)
Prozac OK
The Australian & NZ Journal of Psychiatry says patients become "violent and self-destructing" when taking Prozac. Melbourne Clinic psychiatrists report "self-harming thoughts and actions in patients on Prozac, Aropax & Soloft". NZ Health Ministry therapeutic manager Bob Boyd (yes, him again) says:
"The antidepressants had been closely monitored in NZ and no warning on the drugs is needed."

More Kickbacks
In a proposed cost-cutting scheme in New Zealand doctors' associations and health authorities will get "rebate" from pharmaceutical companies for prescribing their drugs.

Letter Bombs from the "Justice Department"
Have been sent to Brit. Min of Ag & Fish William Waldgrave... who sends calves from his farm in Somerset to veal crates on the Continent. Minister Waldgrave has refused to stop the live animal export trade. Wife Caroline owns the PRU LEIGH School of Cookery in London and boats about the merits of Dutch veal produced in crates. Waldgrave said: "In a free society there are always a few eccentrics who do daft things"... (Like the dafties who wanted votes for women, an end to slavery, the children down from the chimneys and up from the mines... and said the world is round not flat. Ed.)
(Independent 26 April 1995. Thanks Cynthia O'Neill.)
Why Letter Bombs
Eric Martlew, opposition Labour Party MP UK tried to present a bill to ban export of animals destined for crates (illegal in GB). MP opponents blocked any discussion by reading from encyclopedias and 'phone books until the time was up.

Cost of Policing Live Animal Exports
Have cost Britain over 6 million pounds sterling. "This is now a civil rights issue as well as an animal rights issue - the blame for that lies with the Police not us", says Carol Appleby, member of Brightlingsea Against Live Exports.
Scotland Yard Appoints National Animal Rights Coordinator
In response to "serious ALF attacks" the above office has been set up. The job requires "highly effective national intelligence" and provides "resources" to combine police units. The British Research Defence Society "welcomes the move".

ALFSG Raided
In March 1995, two offices of the ALF Supporters Group, a hundred miles apart, were raided by the police who stole records and material including their data-bearing computer. "Whatever happens the SG is not going to close, we are here to stay", says the Group, which is now in desperate need of funds to re-equip.

Gulf War Vets Blame Vaccinations ad Tablets for Illnesses
Say they were forced on troops in 1991 war against Iraq. Thousands of vets in UK and USA now reporting memory loss, fatigue tremors, fainting fits and chronic weakness. Conveniently many medical records have "gone missing".
(Wgn, EP, 3 February 1995.)
Vivisection at Rentokil
Last November the ALF Investigation Unit got photographic evidence of thousands of animals tortured to death at Rentokil laboratories at Felcourt, Surrey. Hundreds were rescued in a raid by ALF. ALF says some chemicals produced by Rentokil are unknown and could be causing massive permanent damage to the environment.
"Computers takeover medical diagnosis doing the job better, quicker and more accurately."
(Courier-Mail, Australia, May 1995).
NZAVS was treated with contempt and hostility by the Health authorities when it supplied all animal labs in NZ with simulated (not animal) programs as far back as 1984.
