Marching for Animals around the world...
Mobilization for Animals banner

NZAVS is proud to belong to Mobilization for Animals. A coalition of approximately 500 groups in 20 countries with headquarters in USA. On 24 April 1983 over 20 million people in USA heard broadcasts revealing details of the meaningless torture and death of three hundred million animals every year around the globe. Eight hundred thousand daily - every day of our lives. It is estimated that 40,000 people actively demonstrated in Mobilization for Animals on 24 April 1983 - and the planners hope for even greater numbers this year.

NZAVS is also affiliated with the British International Association Against Painful Experiments on Animals, a successful network of approximately 60 organisations operating in more than 20 countries with headquarters in London. On 24 April 1983, World Day for Laboratory Animals the combined organisations came out in force making this day the greatest single demonstration in history for animals. Groups in Europe, Scandinavia, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand combined in one gigantic demonstration challenging the cruel laws that condone physical violence against our fellow-beings - challenging our governments' assumption that animals are without rights - challenging the system of legalised tyranny over the helpless.

"We got a film from one lab in which a pig was tied down with ropes and burned with a blow-torch to see if pigs get thirsty when they're burned."
- Carolyn Gruber, National Office, Mobilization for Animals
