The birth of a new Government... The birth of a campaign... NZAVS campaign to abolish the lethal dose 50 test

Manoeuvring adversity to advantage NZAVS exercises its strength in the vacuum brought about by the unexpected election. With an assurance from the new Government that it will honour and recognise the petition members will be informed when the date is set for submissions to be received in Parliament.

Looking back in recap of events members are reminded that no advances have ever been made for animals imprisoned in NZ laboratories. as predicted by NZAVS a giant step backwards took place in 1983 when under the Amendment to the Animal Protection Act 1960 all power went to the vivisectionist ethics committees. In order to bring about reform there must be demands to abolish specific procedures - and the world coalition against the LD50 is campaigning to abolish - for any reason - the Lethal Dose 50 test.

When this is brought about it will be the greatest leap forward in history for the global anti-vivisection movement - and for medical research.

The following pages reveal that the LD50 is carried out on hundreds of thousands of animals in "Medical" experiments to find the "safe" dose of a substance for human beings. In doing so it portrays a saga of animal and human suffering and misery perpetrated under the flag of "Medical" research grotesque beyond belief. The LD50 is the vehicle used by drug giants to fill their coffers, many of whom breed their own "laboratory" animals for the purpose. Members are advised to treat with grave suspicion advocates of abolition of "non-medical" experiments. This implies that vivisection has validity - and gives the green light to the LD50. If the current LD50 testing of drugs were valid we should long ago have entered an age of eternal and universal health... but just the contrary has come to pass:
