The result of this petition is keenly awaited not only by anti-vivisectionists and animal rights campaigners all over the world, but by experts in many professions, including the fields of medicine, toxicology, the chemical industry and the visioned minority engaged in research of human and humane alternatives to the use of the living animal. In allowing the minority, in the pursuit of 'research' to disregard the generally-accepted standards of decency and respect which applies and is taken for granted in the pursuit of other professions, we degrade ourselves as well as our victims. If this is left unchecked all the evidence shows that it will eventually result in our own destruction. The Select Committee on this issue has the opportunity to set an example which the world will follow. Anti-vivisectionists are leading a unique revolution the like of which has never been seen in the history of our race. For we are fighting for the rights of other species. The eyes of the world are on these proceedings and this Committee, which has the power to make a move which will benefit not only animals, but human beings and the future of this planet. We trust that the New Zealand Regulatory Authorities will set the precedent by abolishing their demand for the LD50 alibi to be carried out prior to the importation of products and ban the LD50 alibi being carried out in New Zealand.
Thousands of words and many indisputable indictments against the LD50 alibi will have been received by the Petitions Committee in support of this Petition. To prevent doubling up of information I have already sent to all Parliamentarians I ask that the Committee refers to "The LD50 Alibi" - copies of which are submitted as part of the Society's formal document.
