Rehoming Animals Used or Bred for Science

We're giving animals used or bred for science a second chance at life!

Why we work to end animal experimentation

This is some text inside of a div block.

Thousands of animals are killed for science every year in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Thanks to our Out of the Labs campaigns, both MPI and the National Animal Ethics Advisory Committee (NAEAC) started initiatives to support the rehoming of animals used or bred for science. However, there are no regulations currently in place in NZ that require institutes using animals for science to rehome them where possible.

Many animals are bred for science, never used, and subsequently killed. But even with these animals, there are no requirements for institutes even to try and rehome them.

Over four years (2019-2022), over half a million animals were bred for science, never used, and killed in NZ alone.

With hundreds of thousands of animals being killed yearly, it is difficult to imagine that we can rehome them all. At NZAVS, we focus on rescuing the animals that we can.
