Make a Stand for Animals this 24th

Animal experimentation is still happening in New Zealand.

Animals used in laboratories cannot speak for themselves. We speak for them.

World Day for Animals in Laboratories, observed each year on 24April, is a global moment to acknowledge animals used in research and testing and to question why this continues when humane, effective alternatives exist.

The reality in New Zealand

Each year in New Zealand, animals are subjected to laboratory procedure that can involve pain, distress, confinement, and death. Much of thistakes place out of public view, under systems that continue to favour outdatedpractices over modern, human‑relevant alternatives.

Today, more than 90% ofdrugs that succeed in animal tests fail in humans. Animal experimentationpersists not because it delivers the best outcomes, but because regulations, funding and expectations have not kept pace with scientific progress.

How advocacy creates change

Our advocacy has helped secure bans oncosmetic testing and legal highs testing on animals in New Zealand. We are nowfocused on strengthening transparency, accountability, and investment innon‑animal research.

Your support helps push for public accountability, supportscientists advancing non‑animal methods, and build understanding that drivespolicy change.

Lastingchange comes from changing how research is funded, approved, and scrutinised inNew Zealand.
