Leave a legacy of compassion for animals in Aotearoa

Leaving a gift to NZAVS in your Will is one of the most powerful ways to help create a future where animals are no longer used in experiments in New Zealand. A legacy gift ensures your values of compassion, justice and a belief in better science live on long after your lifetime.

Why leave a gift to NZAVS

Every year, around 300,000 animals are used in research, testing and teaching in New Zealand.

A gift in your Will can help create a future where science no longer depends on animals.

Your legacy will support animal-free research, humane education and advocacy for change, helping reduce animal suffering and advance better alternatives for animals and people.

A gift in your Will is a lasting expression of compassion and hope for a kinder future.

The power of a gift

Gifts in Wills are crucial to our mission. With your support, we can continue working towards a future where no animals are used in research, testing or teaching.

The W. E. Bradshaw University Innovation Grant is a powerful example of the impact a legacy gift can have. Established through a bequest from a compassionate supporter, it became the first grant of its kind in New Zealand dedicated to animal-free research. Their gift continues to make a difference long after their lifetime.

By leaving a gift in your Will, you can help create a future where animals no longer suffer in laboratories and leave a legacy of compassion that will be felt for generations to come.

Why leave a gift to NZAVS

“We all want to make a difference. Having seen how effective a legacy can be with the NZAVS W. E. Bradshaw Grant, I’ve taken the simple step of including NZAVS among the charities included in my Will. This is a logical extension to a longstanding affection for animals, volunteer work and a frustration with only being able to donate small amounts in the here and now."

- John Ransley

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I leave a gift in my Will to NZAVS?

Thank you for considering leaving a gift to NZAVS in your Will. A gift in your Will can help create a future where animals are no longer used in harmful experimentation.

Your solicitor can use the wording below to help ensure your wishes are carried out. If you already have a Will, you do not usually need to rewrite it. Your lawyer can simply add a codicil (an amendment to your existing Will) that includes your chosen bequest to NZAVS.

Every situation is different, so we recommend speaking with your solicitor or legal adviser before making changes to your Will. They can help ensure your wishes are clearly documented and carried out as intended.

If you are creating or updating your Will through the Gathered Here platform, you may need to create a new version of your Will. The process is straightforward and can typically be completed in around 10 minutes.

When making a gift to NZAVS, please include our legal name and charity registration number.

Leaving assets or money to NZAVS

I give to The New Zealand Anti-Vivisection Society Incorporated (CC58881) the sum of $_____ / the following asset(s): _____ for its general purposes, and I declare that the receipt of a duly authorised officer of the Society shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my executors.

Leaving a share of your estate

I give to The New Zealand Anti-Vivisection Society Incorporated (CC58881) _____% of my residuary estate for its general purposes, and I declare that the receipt of a duly authorised officer of the Society shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my executors.

What can I leave to NZAVS?

There are several ways to include NZAVS in your Will. Many people choose to leave a residual gift or a percentage of their estate, as these options automatically adjust over time and help ensure your loved ones are provided for first.

Residual Gift - a residual gift is the remainder of your estate after your debts, expenses, taxes, and any specific gifts to family, friends, or other beneficiaries have been distributed. You can choose to leave all or part of the residue of your estate to NZAVS.

Percentage (or Fractional) Gift - a percentage gift allows you to leave a nominated percentage or fraction of your estate to NZAVS. Because it is linked to the overall value of your estate, it naturally adjusts for changes in asset values and inflation over time. Even a small percentage – such as 1%, 5%, or 10% – can make a significant difference.

Pecuniary Gift - a pecuniary gift is a specific sum of money that you choose to leave to NZAVS. For example, you may decide to leave a gift of $5,000 or $20,000.

Specific Gift - a specific gift is a particular asset or item that you nominate in your Will, such as property, shares, artwork, jewellery, or another valuable possession.
